Gary hasn’t lost an ounce of weight in the past four years. That means that he sees himself on TV and thinks, “Yep, lookin’ good.”
Also, this Teen Mom recap made me laugh.

Yikes, talk about fat-shaming. I feel sad when one of the most public figures of feminism is espousing the marginalization of others, especially given that intersectionality is not a new concept. I feel sad when one of the most public figures of feminism has repeatedly shown the unwillingness to check her own paradigms, and when the example she sets is amplified across a movement that has always struggled to understand intersectionality, to the point that some can no longer identify with the larger feminist movement. At this point, I’m too tired to feel angry.
When I took Intro to Feminism, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, my professor was careful to stress the importance of intersectionality. I wonder how long it’ll take before the ideas of the ivory tower become reality.

What does it say about feminism when one of the most mainstream feminist sites is unable to stay in touch with feminists on the vanguard and the academic firepower they tout? What does it say about feminism when (some of the most) public faces of the movement are unable to check their own paradigms?

On the Asian Fetish, Why Asian Women Date White Men, and the Remasculation of the Western Man

Although it accurately describes the situation at face value, I can’t help feeling that the article doesn’t critically analyze beyond the face value. Will need to think about this some more…

Edit, in the words of the amazing rebj: “In response to this: Let’s not use the term ‘Asian Culture’, as if it is a monolithic, unchanging entity, because then we are confusing Western ideas about Asia with what “Asia” really is. “Asian culture” isn’t responsible for the exoticized, hypersexual, submissive Asian girl stereotype - Orientalism is responsible for that. Sexism has been a part of “Asian society”, just as  it has been a part of EVERY society. It doesn’t do any good to segregate sexism from racism (such as, by implicitly calling one society more sexist). Let’s stop talking about “culture” and start talking about intersecting, interlocking structures of power.

Hate that Jezebel, a mainstream feminist pop culture blog, posted this and filed it under “race”. Is this what intersectional feminism looks like—really? They might as well have posted an article on the biological explanations for why more women aren’t scientists.”
